The ensuring materials used were comparable in thickness and claimed performance. The tests were carried out in the D3O labs, adhering to strict conditions and filmed the process to demonstrate the factual set up of the test.

The material worked very well each time.

D3O lab is a solution provider for shock absorption and impact protection, combining the efficiency of the enhanced chemistry as a tactile polymer, with intelligent geometry and product engineering to maximize the potential of the material.

The functionality of the raw material originates from the synergistic effects of the polymer based dilatants. Energy is distributed throughout the synthetic elastomeric polymer and the enhanced chemistry continues to distribute energy on throughout the matrix.

Here it is a Video about the d3o lab test:

A very detailed analysis and some interesting comments on tyre sealants used in cyclocross applications, are inside Lennard Zinn’s “Technical FAQ” of December 7th. Lennard also interviewes Richard Nieuwhuis, the owner and director of Dugast.
Quoting from Lennard Zinn‘s article:

“I was intrigued recently when I read this marketing claim from Cantitoe Road, the U.S. distributor of Effetto Mariposa’s Caffélatex“. Dugast, producer of some of the finest tubulars money can buy, are very concerned about latex inner tube/sealant interaction. Over the years they have received several warranty claims for tubulars where the tube had been cooked by the ammonia found in natural latex based sealants. Quoting from the test results they sent us after testing Caffélatex: “Racers have extensively field tested Caffélatex with our tubulars. The result is excellent, it’s the only sealant we recommend to our customers.”

I called Richard Nieuwhuis, the owner and director of Dugast, and asked him about this. He’s a busy guy, working 4 a.m to 5:30 p.m. six days a week, so I was pleased to get some time with him. His success on the world cyclocross circuit this season — with riders like Zdenek Stybar, Sven Nys, Katie Compton, the Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld team, Sanne van Paassen, and Marco Bianco winning numerous major races on his tires — has been astounding.

Nieuwhuis confirmed that the only sealant he recommends in his tubulars is indeed Caffélatex because, while it doesn’t fill large holes, it does stay liquid in the tire. He says that he is “not a fan” of Stan’s. He goes on to say, “Stan’s and other sealants with high ammonia content are good products, but after three to four weeks, the sealant starts to dry and is no longer a film.” He says that this destroys the latex inner tube.

// ]]>

Nieuwhuis is also quick to point out the limitations of Caffélatex and all sealants with a quality tubular like a Dugast. He says first of all that sealants won’t protect against snakebites (i.e., pinch flats) or big holes. He also points out that any sealant needs time to fill a hole, and that this is an issue with an inner tube, as opposed to a tubeless tire, whose inner diameter is always the same. The inner tube in a Dugast tubular (and indeed most tubulars and clinchers) is one-third smaller than the inside of the tire. Being elastic, the tube of course stretches more at a weak point (like where it has been punctured), which reduces the chances of the sealant working, especially when the rider starts riding right away again after adding Vittoria Pit Stop or other aerosol sealants.

Palmer: “It has been a long journey, full of excitement as well as a huge amount of work; I feel I have worked 20 years in the last 5! I have created a great brand and solid foundation and I am confident our new CEO, Stuart Sawyer, will continue to build a successful business from it.”
“I relish the chance to recharge my batteries and see some of the world for pleasure rather that business!” Palmer continues, “There have been many thrills & spills along the way, I have had a lot of fun and built a fantastic team who will carry the company on into a bright future.”
Stuart Sawyer: “I have worked closely with Richard over the last 18 months, 6 months as CEO. Richard has done an incredible job to bring the technology from concept to market and build such a strong brand. Having travelled myself with my family a few years ago, I know Richard will benefit greatly from such a well deserved break.”
Palmer retains his shareholding and continues to be involved with the company as a director and member of the Board.
The company wishes Richard well and thanks him for all the energy and sacrifices he has made to get d3o to where it is today.

As all Effetto Mariposa products, Espresso carries some innovative and useful features:
Multi-purpose: Espresso is perfect for both road and off-road applications, fixing punctures on tube-type, tubeless and tubular tyres.
User-friendly: The flexible silicone tube of the nozzle fits directly on Presta valves, allowing the use of Espresso even with spokes close to the valve area or lenticular/road disk wheels (an exclusive feature!).
Minimalistic: The activation button has been eliminated. To use the cartridge, just push the brass nipple on the top of the cartridge in any direction to release sealant.
Clean: Thanks to a direct connection between the valve and cartridge, the special repairing foam (Caffélatex based) goes straight into the tyre, without leaks.
Fast: Less than one minute is needed to inflate and repair tyres with sizes ranging from 700x20c (20-622) up to 26×2.50 (62-559).
No Ammonia: Puncture-sealing action is ensured by ammonia-free Caffelatex sealant optimized for inflate and repair application.

Caffélatex™ is a truly innovative tyre sealant and puncture preventive. The first of its advantages over standard latex-based sealants comes from a foaming agent (Actifoam™), activated by wheel movement.

Centrifugal force drives standard latex-based sealants against the outer circumference of the tyre; CafféLatex™ foaming action causes it to fill the tyre’s entire internal cavity, making it much more effective against sidewall punctures.

Its fast sealing action makes ideal for MTB and road tubeless, tubular and standard tyres: it repairs punctures up to 6mm (mtb) and 3mm (road).

Thanks to its formula, Caffélatex is a very stable and durable sealant (depending on kind of application and external conditions).

Containing no ammonia, it is also 100% tyre & rim friendly.

Usage and storage temperatures: from very cold to very hot, exceeding by far those of first-generation latex sealants (usage: -20/+50°C ~ storage: -15/ +30°C).

Recommended quantities: 50 ml for road tyres or mtb tyres up to 26×2.10/29×2.00; 100 ml for tyres over 26×2.10/29×2.00.

Formats: bottles (1000 or 250 ml) or bundled into Caffélatex Tubeless Conversion Kits

Caffélatex Tubeless Conversion Kits

To take full advantage of Caffélatex sealant, we created two complete kits, to convert standard mountain-bike wheels into tubeless ones.

A quick look at each element of the kits:

- 1 bottle of Caffélatex sealant, 250 ml

– 1 Caffélatex Injector: this oversize syringe injects the special Caffélatex sealant through the valve, to seal the fitted tyre in a clean way. The injector is for Presta valves only (removing or not the valve-core), with a long tube for easier application.

- 1 roll of Caffé Tubeless Tape 21 mm/5 m (RACE Kit) or 25 mm/5 m (HEAVY-DUTY Kit): reinforced with a dense glass-fiber matrix, Caffé Tubeless Tape can stand up to 9 bar (126 psi) of pressure. Replacing standard rim-tape, it perfectly adapts to rim internal profile and makes standard rims air-tight, sealing spoke holes. One roll is enough for two wheels (26 or 29 inches)

- 2 Caffé Tubeless+ 1 Presta valve key: valve is state of the art: thanks to its removable core, the valve allows the use of extensions (if needed) and can be completely rebuilt. Its rubber base ensures a perfect air-tightness just screwing the external valve-ring (that compresses the rubber base), without any need for easy-to-loose orings.

Caffélatex Tubeless Kit RACE (for rims with external section from 22 to 25mm) or HEAVY-DUTY (for rims with external section over 25mm). Each element of the kits is also available as stand-alone product.
