Dream on SnowKite

Published by admin under Skiing and Alpinism

DREAM ON is the answer to long dreamed snowkite experiences in dry fluffy powder. Over the last winter together with the famous snowboard brand Atomic, JN developed and tested several different shapes with the outcome of the DREAM ON. It is the board which will help you land smooth and get the confidence you need totry new stuff. It comes with a strong 4 layer glass layup for more and constant pop.

Construction:
-  D4 sandwich construction
-  Twin prog sidecut
-  Sintered 7200 base
-  Truth 3 CNC wood core (poplar) with milled channels to reduce weight and increase pop.

Core construction:
- Inter carbon
- 2.5 degree park bevel eliminates rail hang ups and lets you slide out of blind/wrapped landings
- RSR + Lite can take a beating from wood, concrete, steel or ice! A layer of super tough ceramic layer P-tex along the length of both edges keeps the hardest of impacts in check.

Vancouver Olympics: Spyder’s GS suit with d3o™

Published by admin under Skiing and Alpinism

New innovations in Spyder’s Olympic GS suit with d3o™

Spyder’s has been completely redesigned their Speed Suit in time for the Vancouver Olympics this year to give athletes the cutting edge advantage they need. The suit contains 3 innovations that will improve the suit’s aerodynamics and result in significant time gains for the Athletes using the suits, including a new kind of d3o™. The suit will be available for purchase in 2011.

“The focus of Spyder’s research during the last few years has been about how we can make our speed suits more slippery against air,” says Spyder Product Director Phil Shettig, “Our goal is to make all of our suits competitively faster by manipulating airflow properties.”
Spyder refined the surface texture on the top face knit, reducing the co-efficient of friction against wind. The new slippery surface has less texture than past fabrics, and was tested in wind tunnels to shave off precious hundredths of seconds from racers’ times, a margin by which many Continue reading »

THE NEW R9 DETECTOR by RECCO AB

Published by admin under Skiing and Alpinism

recco logoAfter more than two years of development RECCO AB introduced their new R9 detector at the October meeting of the International recco avalancheCommission for Alpine Rescue.

The new detector marks a significant leap in innovation and technology for rescue services in the search and rescue of buried avalanche victims. This new detector – ninth generation – is an innovative rescue tool that combines the two best search technologiesdirectional radar and traditional rescue beacon receiver – into one compact, lightweight, hand-held unit. The new detector allows a single rescuer to perform both a RECCO search and a beacon search simultaneously. The ability to perform both the beacon search and RECCO search at the same time is a significant benefit early in the rescue when only a few rescuers must search large areas.

Combining technologies makes rescue more efficient and faster.

Furthermore, technological enhancements make the R9 detector significantly smaller and lighter. About the size of a school book the new detector is half the size, and Continue reading »
