Somewhere between innovation and tradition, true to the style of adidas and AC Milan – for the 2011/12 jersey, the three-stripe label has decided to combine its most innovative technology with a design reminiscent of the Rossoneri strips of the early twentieth century.
The launch, too, was structured along the same lines – journalists from the traditional media and bloggers gathered at adidas Italy’s Brand Center in Monza but Milan fans from across Italy and the world were also able to attend the unveiling of the new strip and to ask the guests in attendance questions by means of live streaming at adidas.com.
Guests at the event included CEO and Vice President of AC Milan, Adriano Galliani, Senior Vice President Commercial Operations (Europe and Russian Federation) of Emirates, Salem Obaidalla, and the CEO of adidas Italy, Jean Michel Granier.
.
The star models of the new kit were Rossoneri players Clarence Seedorf, Mark Van Bommel and Luca Antonini.
The event was hosted by familiar television personality, and avid AC Milan fan, Daniele Bossari.
The strip will be worn for the first time on May 15th for the penultimate game of the league against Cagliari.

Design of the strip
ReReverting once again to the thinner 2cm-wide stripes compared to the 9cm-wide ones of last year, there there are 21 stripes in total, 11 of which are black and 10 red.
The white crew neck stands out with three stripes on the sleeves, which are white for the first time, on a red inset. TThe back of the collar bears the words “Associazione Calcio Milan” underneath the Italian flag to highlight the fact that Milan is one of the best-known symbols of Italy around the world.
Reference to the colours of the Italian flag can be found on the insets at the sides on the front of the shirt as well as on the shorts and socks.

Technology
Next season, AC Milan players will be able to choose whether to wear the TECHFIT™ PowerWEB uniform as a single layer or whether to wear the base layers under the FORMOTION™ uniform, which has a traditional fit.
TECHFIT™ PowerWEB is the most innovative technology used for sportswear. Thanks to the use of special compression fabrics and the application of TPU strips at specific areas of the body, the TECHFIT™ layers are able to concentrate muscular energy to the maximum to give the athlete explosive power, acceleration and resistance, whilst reducing muscle vibration, improving the athlete’s posture, the feel of their body and level of core stability in order to guarantee not just any performance but record-breaking performance.

Worn all together (shirt, shorts and socks), the TECHFIT™ PowerWEB kit is able to increase players’ power by 5.3%*, their jump height by 4%*, their sprinting speed by 1.1%* and their efficiency by 0.8%*. adidas TECHFIT™ PowerWEB kits, worn as a single layer, are 45% lighter than the classic two-piece kit worn together.

The ForMotion™ strip sees the use of three-dimensional and elastic fabrics which adapt perfectly to the body of the player and subsequently improve the fit of the strip in order to optimise movement, comfort and increase freedom of action.
The addition of adidas ClimaCool™ and adidas FlowMapping™ ensures optimum breathability and helps the Rossoneri players to maintain an ideal body temperature, even under pressure.

Adidas proudly presents the new Official Match Ball for the UEFA Champions League Final in Madrid on May 22nd: the “Finale Madrid”. This is the tenth consecutive time that an adidas ball has been used in the group phase and the Final of the UEFA Champions League. The design of the “Finale Madrid” ball, presented today at Real Madrid CF’s Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, pays tribute to the exciting history of the UEFA Champions League competition.

adidas celebrates each of the ten most recent UEFA Champions League Finals with a unique and distinctive design positioned inside each of the characteristic star panels of the ball, including the upcoming Final in Madrid. Each design features the exclusive motif from the ten most recent Finals drawn in gold. The red borders of each star pay homage to the national colour of the Spanish flag while the base of the ball is inspired by the immaculate white of royal Madrid.

Alongside the traditional design elements of the ball, new technology is introduced. Under the motto “design becomes technology”, adidas has succeeded in integrating the technology of the ball into the star panel design, making the adidas Finale ball and the UEFA Champions League logo inseparable, while providing the truest possible ball flight. The panel structure is completed by 20 pentagonal panels. The “goose bumps”, a PSC-Texture™ known from previous editions of the ball, have been kept, guaranteeing ideal ball control under all conditions. David Taylor, CEO UEFA Events, said: ”Once again we think adidas has done a great job with the design and the technology of the ball. It’s a special ball for a special game and it’s fitting for the tenth anniversary of the adidas partnership.”

”The UEFA Champions League Final is where the very best in football meet and therefore it is a natural place for adidas to be. We are proud to celebrate our tenth birthday as the Official Supplier of the competition and look forward to a fantastic weekend in Madrid,” says adidas Vice President Football Global Sports Marketing Claus-Peter Mayer.

”Designing this ball was really good fun and very special for our team,” says adidas designer Janneke van Oorschot. ”The star panel is an ideal shape for us to give the legendary Finals from the recent past the attention they deserve. The special colours of Spain and Madrid, which have been used in the design, make the ball look stylish and definitely fitting for another legendary UEFA Champions League Final,” she continued.

adidas ball technology comprises the unique experience portfolio of almost 50 years of football production. As a result, sales figures confirm adidas’ position as the most successful football manufacturer in the world.

adidas will continue to use innovative technology to extend its leading position in global football. This, in turn, will further strengthen adidas’ position as the market leader in high-performance sports equipment for professionals and amateurs alike. The adidas Innovation Team will continue its development of more revolutionary match ball technologies, which will be introduced at future UEFA, FIFA and CAF competitions.

At a global media event featuring footballer Cristiano Ronaldo in London, NIKE, Inc. (NYSE:NKE) today unveiled the Mercurial Vapor SuperFly II, a lightweight boot featuring a new, unique adaptive traction system designed for explosive acceleration. The Mercurial Vapor SuperFly II features a reengineered upper for enhanced fit and ball control for fast feet while the vibrant ultra-violet color boosts visibility on the pitch.

“NIKE, Inc. is the world’s largest and most innovative football company,” said Mark Parker, NIKE, Inc.’s President & CEO. “Our success in the world’s most popular sport is based on creating innovative products and experiences such as the new, incredibly light and responsive Mercurial SuperFly II boot and Nike Football+ which connects the digital and physical worlds of football.
Traction on demand
In developing NIKE SENSE adaptive traction technology, designers created an adaptive stud that can extend and retract by up to 3mm, based on ground conditions and pressure exerted by the player. Directionally positioned blades maximize cutting and allow for quick changes of direction, while secondary toe traction provides added toe-off power for those first critical steps. The result is a boot that enables greater speed in all directions.

Nike’s design and engineering teams talked with some of the fastest players in the world, who emphasized that acceleration around a defender is just as important as beating him in a straight line. The Nike Sports Research Lab researched the world championship finals in 2006 and found that there were 845 slipping events over 63 games, or roughly 14 per game. Building on these insights, the Nike team collaborated closely with elite athletes including Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexandre Pato to create a boot that enables toe-off acceleration and minimizes slippage in game-changing situations.

“For me, it’s all about first-step acceleration, but twisting and turning around a defender is also important,” Cristiano Ronaldo said. “The Mercurial Vapor Superfly II helps me do both, so I can beat my opponent and create scoring opportunities.”

Athlete insights also pointed to the desire for a close fit around the foot without compromising on durability or support. Next-generation Nike Flywire technology incorporated into the boot’s streamlined upper provides a lightweight, strong and more dynamic fit. The carbon composite tuned chassis provides a lightweight platform with traction elements and allows players to stay closer to the ground.

Access to the elite through Nike Football+
The Mercurial Vapor SuperFly II also gives consumers unprecedented access to the training insights of the world’s top players, teams and coaches through Nike Football+. Each pair of boots comes with a unique user code that can be used to unlock trade secrets from inside the game and the next installment of Nike Football+, Master Speed training content on NikeFootball.com.

The Nike Football + Master Speed program provides exclusive access to Brazil national team stars Robinho, Fabiano and Nilmar, putting the power of speed directly into footballers’ hands and their game day preparation. Four camps are available:
A Pelada – Learn high-speed ways to practice fast, competitive Brazilian football.
A Selecao –Enter the top secret world of the Brazil National Team’s training hideaway in the mountains, Granja Comery. Experience squad drills and 3-man exercises with a top CBF coach.

Building on the Master Speed program, “Inside the Elite” is a new feature offering exclusive inside access to players. Athletes including Robinho, Javier Mascherano and Zlatan Ibrahimovic offer candid insights on their game and match preparation.

In addition to these Nike Football+ Master Speed programs, footballers will have access to country-specific Nike Football+ activities like training sessions, trial events and player appearances. Nike Football+ is also available as an app for the iPhone and iPod Touch on iTunes®.

Today, the Copa enjoys a tremendous come back after years of stable demand.

While the Copa is a shoe that should be untouched to tribute the adidas heritage, there is a growing demand for an adidas boot, that stays to the classical roots, but gives them a new twist.

In 2006, we remembered those classical roots. With the 7406 we created a boot, that combined the classical look and state of the art technologies.

The launch of PURE 08 brought this combination to a different level and resulted in a great product with excellent response from the market.

Grip’n’Groove profile for football ‘Celebration’ in Africa
Cape Town/Herzogenaurach, December 4th, 2009 – Today in Cape Town, adidas and FIFA present the adidas “JABULANI”, the Official Match Ball for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™. The “JABULANI”, which means “to celebrate” in isiZulu, features a South African inspired design and radically new technology. The new match ball will be available in retail from December 5th onwards.
The newly developed “Grip’n’Groove” profile provides the best players in the world with a ball allowing an exceptionally stable flight and perfect grip under all conditions. Comprising only eight, completely new, thermally bonded 3-D panels, which for the first time are spherically moulded, the ball is perfectly round and even more accurate than ever before.
The name:
The name ”JABULANI” originates from the Bantu language isiZulu, one of the eleven official languages of the Republic of South Africa, which is spoken by almost 25% of the population. Literally translated, “JABULANI” means “to celebrate”. Football is a passion that unites the world. The name of the new match ball appropriately pays tribute to the passionate football celebration international fans will enjoy in South Africa next summer.
The design:
Eleven different colours are used in the adidas “JABULANI”, the eleventh adidas World Cup ball. These 11 colours represent the 11 players in every team, the 11 official languages of South Africa and the 11 South African tribes that make the country one of the most ethnologically diverse countries on the African continent.

The colourful design brings together the tremendous diversity of the country in harmonious unity. Four triangle-shaped design elements on a white background lend the ball a unique appearance in African spirit. And like the outer facade of Johannesburg’s Soccer City Stadium, individual design elements also capture the colourfulness of South Africa.

Eight 3-D spherically formed EVA and TPU panels are moulded together, harmoniously enveloping the inner carcass. The result is an energetic unit combined with perfect roundness. Following the first tests, players all over the world are enthusiastic and are promising many goals with the new ball.

Michael Ballack: “Fantastic, the ball does exactly what I want it to.”
Petr Cech: ”You can feel the energy coming towards you, like a shot.”
Frank Lampard: “A very strong ball, true to hit.”
Kaká: “For me, contact with the ball is all-important, and that’s just great with this ball.”

Aero grooves:
Aero grooves create the clearly visible profile on the ball’s surface. The Grip’n’Groove profile circles round the entire ball in an optimal aerodynamic way. The integrated grooves provide unmatched flight characteristics, making this the most stable and most accurate adidas ball ever. The ground-breaking performance features of the adidas “JABULANI” have been confirmed in comprehensive comparison tests at Loughborough University in England and countless checks in the wind tunnel and the adidas football laboratory in Scheinfeld, Germany.

Introducing the Mercurial Vapor Superfly.

Imagine a paper-thin boot, where the support comes from threads. This is the Mercurial Vapor Superfly – an industry-defining boot, incorporating Nike Flywire technology and redefining how footwear is made. Nike Flywire technology utilizes high-strength threads that act like cables on a suspension bridge, delivering engineered support precisely where it’s needed. This revolutionary technology transforms how footwear is engineered by reducing the amount of material required for the upper of a shoe to the bare minimum without compromising on durability or integrity and support. The strength of Nike Flywire technology is created through optimal placement of threads providing support where players need it most, coupled with highly tuned composite upper package that locks the threads in place, allowing the upper to adapt to the motion of the foot. The composite upper package uses an ultra-thin Teijin skin to cover the top of the foot, and together with the Flywire threads locks the foot in place. The Mercurial Vapor Superfly also incorporates a revolutionary new lightweight traction cleats and a carbon fiber chassis that shave precious grams from the boot, ensuring the player remains quicker than ever without compromising integrity or traction.

The boot combines the best materials and technologies, with the best craftsmanship and passion. This handcrafted boot exemplifies Nike’s obsession for lightweight, uncompromising product. The Mercurial Vapor Superfly is Nike’s lightest and fastest football boot ever. In a game that’s being played faster and faster every season, speed is imperative. Players need to be faster with the ball. They need to accelerate quicker, react quicker and change the game quicker than the opposition. Technology: • Engineered Flywire Thread is positioned to meet the needs of the fastest players, providing optimal support precisely where the foot needs it • Composite Upper combines five ultra thin layers that encase the Flywire threads to create a finely tuned shell that functions in harmony with the foot • Teijin Synthetic Skin exterior surface, only 300 microns thick, to ensure the best possible fit and feel • Flywire, Composite Upper and Teijin Skin combine to create Nike’s thinnest football upper to date and provide a uncompromising foot to boot, boot to ball fit • Lightweight Traction Cleats incorporate a higher density inner structure providing the necessary integrity yet allowing the extraction of unnecessary weight from the center of the studs. These super-light, super-strong direct injected dual-density molded studs deliver optimal traction • 7-layer carbon composite outsole shaves off weight while delivering maximum resilience, strength and flexibility • Minimal Internal Heel Counter provides added integrity in the heel for ultra explosive players • One-piece Seamless Heel Pod Liner offers added comfort and fit • Nike’s lightest football boot ever, weighing in at an unbelievable185g Nike Flywire History Seven years ago all Flywire technology’s creator Jay Meschter, Innovation Director of Nike’s Innovation Kitchen, had was a shoe last, the mold from which shoes are built, with pins and string placed only at key points where the foot requires support. The model looked like 1970s string art but held an uncharted realm of possibility. This single product concept held the potential to revolutionize the way footwear is constructed. Creating a skeleton or cradle with engineered fibers strategically placed to hold the foot in place overturns the very assumptions that go into creating performance footwear – add more to a shoe to get more support, The Innovation Kitchen knew the possibilities the product held, but there was no easy or cost effective way to deliver the innovation into product. The project went into hibernation until Jay and his team could find the machinery and processes capable of delivering the technology to product. A couple years later in Nike’s sample room Jay found the answer right before his eyes in a simple embroidery machine. Embroidery was the way to engineer Flywire technology. In theory the machine’s needle can pick up and move in any direction, creating the long stitches the new technology required. Of course it wasn’t that simple. The machine had to be broken and reprogrammed to deliver the engineering Jay was thinking about. Stitching straight across the upper (rather than using a large jump stitch) would have made something no more effective than decoration on the side of the shoe. Creating a long stitch means the structure comes entirely from the thread. With its radical reduction of weight, Flywire also spells the end of using layers of material to create support, all of which adds weight and decreases flexibility. Early on in the process, the design team started working with biomechanics experts in the Nike Sports Research Lab. With duct tape in hand, they taped up designers’ feet. NSRL researcher Jeff Pisciotta had long been fascinated by the idea of creating an extra ligament that would facilitate movement. Ligaments guide joints in the right direction. “We were wrapping under the foot up to the heel with the tape to provide lateral stability. Through that and a bit of anatomy we were able to position the Flywire threads in the right places,” he explains. Such a precise placement of the Flywire filaments means the uppers are more like a second skin. The fabric is only there to keep out rocks and dirt. “Flywire gets to that elusive thing of the plate just attaching to the bottom of the foot and forgetting about the shoe,” Meschter says. It also gets Nike one step closer to achieving one of Bill Bowerman’s goals. When he was a coach, he said the ideal track spike would be a nail through the foot Flywire is not quite as extreme as a nail, but it’s as close as anyone has gotten to applying a plate directly to feet.
